Legacy audio drivers are components that deliver sound on your computer system. They may or may not be the default sound drivers, depending on your computer system. These drivers can cause errors if they are conflicting with other sound devices, and as a result interfere with sound playback. Disabling these drivers can be accomplished from the Device Manager on your computer system.
Step 1
Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Control Panel." Double-click the "System" icon or "System and Maintenance" (Windows Vista users). Click the "Hardware" tab (Windows XP users) and click "Device Manager."
Step 2
Scroll down the device manager and click the "+" button next to "Sound, video and game controllers." This displays a list of the audio devices installed on your computer.
Step 3
Right-click "Legacy audio drivers" and click "Disable." A red x appears on the disabled drivers. Close the device manager.
Step 4
Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Restart" to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
