Default nvidia driver problem linux
I am having a hard time getting my dual monitors to work in Ubuntu 9.10. I have installed the Nvidia 185 driver

through the hardware updates and then do a sudo nvidia-settings to get the two monitors set up. I save

the configuration and then reboot. Then the problem begins. Upon rebooting and entering the program

it slows to a crawl and the windows take on a slow window shade behavior. I tried resetting the appearance

section but it won't respond. It just runs like molasses. I tried going to the 173 driver but that does the same

thing. I have no idea what might be causing this but I run two monitors all day long in Ubuntu 9.04 and I have

never had this problem. It appears peculiar to 9.10. Happily I installed 9.10 in an extended partition so I am in

no crises, but it is annoying and I will not shift over to the new distro until everything works. I read somewhere

that this is a problem with the Nvidia driver and this seems the case. When I remove the Nvidia driver everything

returns to normal but at a very low resolution. Anybody have any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks much for any and all advice.

I am running an Intel MSI motherboard with Nvidia 7100 chipset, 4gigs of RAM, Duo core cpu 2.2ghz.

First backup/etc/X11/xorg.conf and make sure you've latest nvidia driver from the official website. Once installed reconfigure nvidia:
