Default Install Windows XP on a Dell With No CD Drivers
Step 1

Turn on the computer and insert the Windows XP installation disk.

Step 2

Press any key when prompted by the startup messages to boot from the CD.

Step 3

Press "Enter" to begin the installation.

Step 4

Use the "F8" key to agree to the end-user licensing agreement.

Step 5

Select the partition upon which you would like to install Windows XP. Dells usually contain two partitions--a larger partition and a smaller "recovery" partition. Install Windows XP on the larger of the two.

Step 6

Input the rest of the information when prompted to complete the installation, including your product key and information about your Internet setup. The auto-installer will automatically load the required drivers during the installation process.
