Drivers are programs that instruct your particular operating system on the best way to interface with a piece of hardware. Obtaining a copy of your Windows drivers on your new Dell computer is a sound idea, providing you with backup copies in case something goes amiss with your original installation. Extracting and backing up all of the drivers on your computer can be readily accomplished through the use of a free driver-extraction program.
Step 1
Download and install Driver Magician (see Resources) or another driver extraction program of your choice. These are utilities that will scan your hard drive for all of the drivers on your system, backing them up in a location of your choosing.
Step 2
Open the Driver Magician program and navigate to the "Driver Backup" tab at the top of the screen. This will auto-generate a list of all of the drivers on your system.
Step 3
Click the checkbox next to all of the drivers that you want to back up.
Step 4
Press the "Start Backup" key at the bottom of the screen to begin the copying process, saving backups of your Dell computer drivers.
